Rach E Smith is one of my favorite singers and songwriters. Her songwriting is thoughtful and vivid. Her voice is genuine and just plain beautiful. I either cry or want to every time I hear what what she comes up with. Here’s “Currency (Live)” from her upcoming EP (for which you can support her here –> bit.ly/CurrencyProject )

Also…

Ever stumble upon a song that pretty much sums up the season you’re in or coming out of? That’s “When the Night Lifts” by Rachel Smith for me. Aaand you can download it too…

There’s a river running through the land
And it holds every life inside of its hands
It doesn’t matter where I’ve been
Where I am
Oh I always come back again

There is life that flows inside those banks
And so I bend down low and drink

It’s not always what I want
But it’s always what I need
Like a tall drink of water
in the midsummer heat
It’s not always what I search for
But it’s always what I find
Like a wall made of diamonds
in a black coal mine
I can’t get around you

It’ll find you in the darkest room
When the night lifts, oh the sun will shine through
In the valley of death,
All you who are hopeless
Oh it’s coming for you

There is life that flows inside those banks
Now it cannot be contained

It’s not always what I want
But it’s always what I need
Like a tall drink of water
in the midsummer heat
It’s not always what I search for
But it’s always what I find
Like a wall made of diamonds
in a black coal mine
I can’t get around you

All of you hopeless
If your dreams are broken
It’s coming for you
All of you full of pride
You think everything’s fine
but it’s coming for you
All of you cynics
Sick of the world and everything in it
It’s coming for you

It’s not always what I want
But it’s always what I need
Like a tall drink of water
in the midsummer heat
It’s not always what I search for
But it’s always what I find
Like a wall made of diamonds
in a black coal mine
I can’t get around you
